MARKETING/ANCILLARY
SOCIAL MEDIA //
The most appropriate form of marketing for music videos is through social media. This is because the majority of the artist's followers are young, and therefore use social media to connect to their favourite artists movements and music. Therefore, this is the ideal platform to release teasers for music and music videos and gain an audience.
Hozier uses Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, a YouTube page and a VEVO page. This offers him a wide variety of different social platforms to promote his music. As his independent producer, this also gives us a platform to advertise the music video for "Arsonist's Lullabye" to a wide audience, as well as his selected target market. Therefore, the video will be uploaded onto YouTube, as the main platform to access and watch the video. During the audience survey, this was the top response when asked 'What platform do you watch Music Videos on". From there, I will then post the youtube link (as seen below), onto platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, in order to advertise it.
On these social media links, there is the ability to share, like and repost others posts. Therefore, the video could be spread throughout the internet and gain more attention, a sense of digital 'word of mouth'.

Another way that is popular with musicians and their marketing team, is to upload a variety of different clips from the music video to entice the audience for the full revealing, which may be a couple days later. This can be seen with bands, such as Catfish and the Bottlemen, as well.
ANCILLARY PRODUCTS //
These are products which will be used to promote the artist and the album, without necessarily using social media. For example, they can be in the form of Digipaks for CD's, Magazine advert posters, posters on the sides of bus stops, on walls, underground stations etc. For my task, I will be creating a promotion package for the release of Hozier's album of 'Arsonist's Lullaby' - to include a music promo video, with a digipak for the album's release or a magazine advertisement for the CD.
